About Hope Waldheim Church

Our Beliefs

We believe the Bible is the source of our worldview.

At Hope Waldheim Church, we believe that while the Bible was written by real people throughout history, God inspired them with the words to write, making the Bible His Word to us as well. Because of this, the Bible has the final say in our lives and beliefs.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness”2 Timothy 3:16 (ESV)
We believe that our members have a say in our church functions.
22 Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers,”Acts 15:22 (ESV)
We believe every Christian has a direct connection to God through Jesus.

We believe that as a result of the work of Jesus Christ on the cross 2000+ years ago, the direct connection between God and humans that was once broken due to sin, has been made possible again. Therefore, we no longer need a priest to speak to God on our behalf; we can communicate with God ourselves.

16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”Hebrews 4:16 (ESV)
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)
We believe in an Individual/Personal Commitment to Christ

We believe we are responsible for our own commitment to Jesus Christ. No one else can make this decision for us.

12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,”John 1:12 (ESV)
We believe in the Believer’s Baptism.

We believe that baptism (immersion in water) is a symbolic public proclamation for someone who has truly believed in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross and has chosen to confess Him as their Lord and Savior.

4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life…”Romans 6:4-6 (ESV)

Avery Dixon – Campus Pastor

First of all, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. God has shown His infinite mercy on me by calling me to be His child. I did not deserve His grace, and still don’t. I guess that is why they call it grace. I have a desire to see the church return to its roots. To see Christians who recognize they are no better than non-Christians. Christians who recognize we are all sinners. But, there is a big difference; Christians are justified sinners. And this is a work of the deep love of Christ.
I am also the husband of literally the most beautiful woman in the world. And on top of that, she is an amazingly loving mother. She is also super talented and creative. When i say creative…I mean it! Just ask her to paint a Van Gogh for you. She can do it! It’s insane.

I also have kids. And I think they are amazing. They are not perfect, but I am extremely blessed to have them. My son and daughter light up my world and have pushed me to walk closer with Jesus.

I pastor Hope Waldheim Church in Covington, LA. I have been blessed to be here for 7 years now. I began in ministry in 1996 after knowing God was calling me to His service. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, I went on to receive a Master’s of Divinity from NOBTS. God has continued to sustain me throughout 20 years of ministry. I pray God will use me as He sees fit.
